What I Believe, Part Two

This is not going to be a particularly long post, but I wanted to get some of my thoughts written down.  I don’t plan on discussing any specific events, people, or elections; only my personal ideology.

I am not a Democrat.  I am not a Republican.  I think that both parties have it wrong, and that is because I do not believe in Big Government, which is what both parties strive for.  I believe in as small a government as possible to protect our civil liberties.  I think that people should be able to do whatever they want as long as it does not infringe on another person’s property or person.  Women should be able to do whatever they want with their bodies (so should men, though that’s never really been an issue) and people should be able to marry whomever they want (or even more than one person, if desired).

I believe in a true free market, something this country has never had.  There has always been government manipulation and interference.  I am a capitalist, I believe in the original American dream, I believe that profit and success are good and not something to feel guilty about.  I believe capitalism is a moral system, and I am so tired of businessmen and -women and corporations being portrayed as greedy and bad, out to screw the little guy.  I believe statism is a sickness in this country and the antithesis of everything great that the United States was built on.  I believe in the goodness of people, that we will give to those who need it without the government forcing us to.

There’s a lot more I could say, obviously – this is just the tip of the iceberg; but I also don’t feel like treading into current events, which is where I feel writing more will take me.  I’m not writing this because I want to engage in debate with people who disagree with me; I’m writing this only to give a bigger picture of who I am and what I think.  I could edit and tweak this post all day, but I think I will hit “Publish” and let it stand as it is, just my first thoughts spilling out through the keyboard.
