Maude’s Liquor Bar

Dinner at Maude’s Liquor Bar… I can tell you right off the bat that my photos will not come close to doing this food justice. We were meeting my cousin Ariana there for an 8:30 reservation, but since we took the train up we padded our schedule and got there at 8 to try one of their many appealing cocktails. We both settled on the St. Germain Fizz, a delicious blend of Nuit Blanche vodka, Aperol, and St. Germain. Despite it being a Thursday night, the place was packed and buzzing. The restaurant has a very lovely (and dim) ambience. Here’s a shot of the bar:

After Ariana arrived, we moved on to wine, the selection of which we left in her very capable and knowledgeable hands. Once our table was ready, we let her take over the ordering and had a parade of amazing dishes appear on our table.

To start, we had chicken liver mousse served with red onion jam and delicious fresh warm bread.

Next up: tenderloin steak tartare with a slow-cooked egg yolk, served with more of the same delicious bread. The tartare was absolutely out of this world.

Gorgeous shaved vegetable salad with beets, carrots, apples, walnuts, and Bleu D’Auvergne, the best blue cheese I’ve ever tasted.

And a side order of Pommes Frites served with an amazing garlic aioli (no photo).

We couldn’t come close to finishing everything, but it was such a pleasure sampling a wide variety of what the menu has to offer. I can’t wait to go back next time we’re in Chicago!
