The town of Damyung cultivated a large bamboo garden with many walking paths, an artificial waterfall, and little panda statues lurking in some areas. I presume they did this to boost tourism, and it certainly worked. There were many people there when we were there on Saturday, and the area outside the garden had many thriving businesses. Even with the crowds, the interior was still peaceful and relaxing. I can see the appeal to having a bamboo garden in your backyard. If this were closer to Seoul, I would go on a regular basis and sit and read in one of the many resting nooks scattered throughout the garden.
