I got to go not one, but two holiday concerts featuring the 8th Army Band in the last week. The first one was the Annual American-Korean Friendship Holiday Concert, at the gorgeous Seoul Arts Center. The band and soloists were fabulous on the first half of the concert, and the second half of the concert was put on by the Kook Soo Ho Didimdance Company. Their program featured traditional Korean drumming and dancing, and was very interesting, although I thought the halves should have been flipped as the festive holiday mood set by the 8th Army Band was hard to maintain through all of that drumming.
The second concert was out of town in Uijeongbu. This is the concert that the 2ID Band used to perform. Like a true groupie, I got to ride the bus up that afternoon with the band and hang out all day while they rehearsed. At the performance that night, I managed to get some pictures, though the quality isn’t great. The band performed mostly the same program as they did at the Friendship Concert, but they added in a K-pop tune that brought the house down. The Uijeongbu City Children’s Choir performed 3 selections (all in English, complete with lots of movement and jazz hands – they sounded fabulous!), then K-pop star Sonnet Son performed 3 selections. The show ended with the 8th Army Band performing “Let It Go” with Sonnet Son.
