We were able to meet up with my cousin Ariana one last time on our Chicago visit, this time for brunch at another Hogsalt restaurant, Au Cheval, an upscale diner. Like Maude’s Liquor Bar, we left the ordering in Ariana’s hands, and a tableful of amazing dishes soon appeared. The coffee was French press and nicely balanced, and every single dish we had was out of this world.
Omelette with roasted peppers, espellette, and fresh chèvre – perfectly cooked with a smooth and light texture.
Foie gras and scrambled eggs – the eggs were incredibly delicate and balanced the foie gras perfectly.
Cheeseburger à cheval – this cheeseburger has been voted the #1 burger in Chicago, and we could see why.
Hash browns with an excellent mix of crispy and soft textures.
And by far the best bacon I’ve ever had in my life, extremely thick-cut and peppered.
To finish, we each had a chocolate martini shot comprised of nuit blanche, crema d’alba, and Godiva dark liqueur.
It was such a pleasure to spend time with Ariana, who is as passionate about food and drink as we are, if not more. I can’t wait to host her whenever I can get her to come to Maryland to visit us!
